Creating Spaciousness
We are glad to be with you today. We sense the stress and the tightness around many of you. We feel that there is a need for you to create some spaciousness. We are talking about simple things that can give you a little space in your day. Many of you are going from one thing, to the next, to the next, and the next without a break. If you are taking a break but all you're doing is grabbing food, scrolling on your phone, and thinking about what's next you are not giving yourself a true break.
What we are suggesting, as a very simple thing, is that when you finish one thing, whether it's a project, an errand or a meeting end it purposely. Recognize that you have completed whatever it was that you were doing and then give yourself 2 to 3 minutes before you dive into the next thing. You may think that two or three minutes won't make a difference, but it can. For those of you that can visualize you could visualize yourself in a favorite place in nature, for those who meditate, even breathing for one or two minutes can shift your nervous system and your mind into a calmer place. For some of you it may be pulling up a picture that you find calming, maybe a forest or the park or your backyard or if the view out the window is of a very calming place take the 2 minutes to look out the window without worrying about what's next or ruminating on what just finished. These may seem too simple but creating breaks within your thinking, within your movement, within your life gives you space to just be. Many humans get so hooked on doing the next thing that they don't ever truly stop.
Please note that we are talking of just a couple of minutes, but those couple of minutes repeated 5 or 6 times during the day can truly calm your mind, your nervous system, your energy. And yes, the first few times you try it, it may not seem to do anything but just as with any practice, the more times that you do it the easier it becomes.
We do know that clearing the brain is not easy for many of you, which is why we suggest something visual or counting your breaths. If you have a little longer even a 5-minute walk where you are only paying attention to your surroundings can be helpful.
We are not suggesting these mini breaks to replace your meditation practice, your quiet time or anything else that brings you peace. This is just meant to be an add on to help you as you go throughout your daily activities.
We love you, we hope that you are able to find peace, clarity, and love in those quiet moments.
